Times are good in the Outaouais region. Thanks to the high-tech
industry and the omnipresent federal government, the local
economy has been growing rapidly for several years.
Nonetheless,
the region has more to offer than a favourable business environment.
The region's proximity to nature, its history and its museums
make it one of the best tourist destination in North America.
Even in winter,
the region has enough activities and events to make the chilliest
person happy.
For more information regarding the Outaouais' attractions,
consult our Photo Album or register
online and we will send you additional information
and our promotions. |

Gatineau Hot Air Balloon Festival |
http://www.ville.gatineau.qc.ca/festival/english/
Held every year during labour day weekend, the Gatineau Hot Air Balloon
Festival features more than 150 balloons of all shapes and colors
and from several different countries rising in the early morning
or late afternoon sky over the National Capital Region. The constant
animation on the ground, between flights, is what sets apart the
Gatineau Hot Air Balloon Festival from other balloon festivals. In
every corner of La Baie Park, on several different stages, audiences
can enjoy performances by renowned artists, comedians, singers, acrobats
and musicians.
Casino du Lac-Leamy |
http://www.casino-du-lac-leamy.com/accueil_ch.jsp?Params=Y.US.1.0
Bordering Leamy Lake, in a building with avant-garde architecture
located just minutes from the Suites Victoria, the Casino de du Lac-Leamy
offers you an unforgettable experience in a spectacular setting of
greenery, water and light. A magnificent tree-lined drive and view
of the lake lead to the Casino du Lac-Leamy. Its main fountain, located
right in the middle of the lake, propels its jet up to 200 feet in
the air. Inside, thousands of tropical plants, numerous indoor pools,
waterfalls and walls of glass and cherry transport you into an atmosphere
which is pure magic.
National Gallery of Canada
http://national.gallery.ca/english/default.htm
The National Gallery of Canada is a striking landmark against the
Capital's skyline. Designed by architect Moshe Safdie and opened
in 1988, this treasure house in granite and glass is the home of
Canada's exceptional art collection. Light, spacious galleries and
quiet courtyards lead you on a voyage of discovery through the Canadian
collection, a reflection of the rich diversity of Canada's heritage
and culture. Over 1,200 works from the permanent collection are on
view. Special exhibitions, organized by the Gallery with other museums
across Canada and around the world, highlight the work of Canadian
and international artists.
Canadian Museum of Civilization |
http://www.civilization.ca/indexe.asp
Only 2 minutes from the Suites Victoria, the Canadian Museum of Civilization
is a museum for all people. A museum that celebrates the diversity
of humankind and evokes wonder at the achievements of cultures, past
and present. A museum animated by exhibitions, live performances,
giant-screen excitement and the laughter of children. Walk through
1,000 years of settlement in Canada, from the earliest Viking landing
site in Newfoundland through New France and Upper Canada to the Prairies
and beyond in our Canada Hall. Take a fun-filled round-the-world
voyage of discovery in the Canadian Children's Museum. Trek through
the desert to a pyramid, help unload a cargo ship at the Port of
Entry, or stroll through the bustling Market Bazaar. There are endless
ways for children to learn about the world and each other. Discover
how Canadians have met the challenges of communicating by mail across
one of the largest and most rugged landscapes in the world through
fascinating exhibitions and interactive displays in the Canadian
Postal Museum. Take a seat in the IMAX/OMNIMAX Theatre and let the
giant screen sweep you into the action.
Gatineau Park |
http://www.capcan.ca/gatineau/eng_index.html
Gatineau Park is undoubtedly one of the great treasures of Canada's
Capital Region. Located only minutes from the Suites Victoria, the
park, with over 350 square kilometres of rolling, lake-strewn land
between the Ottawa and Gatineau Rivers, offers Canadians a taste
of their wilderness heritage. The National Capital Commission, the
park's guardian, strives to preserve a delicate balance between sharing
the park's beauty and the obligation to protect it for future generations.
Set in the beautiful Gatineau Hills, the forests of this natural
park are rich in varieties of trees (there are more than 60 kinds),
animal life and many pristine-clear lakes. On a hike along any of
the park's trails you may very well cross paths with a white-tailed
deer, a beaver or a pileated woodpecker.
Rideau Canal |
http://www.capcan.ca/explore/seasonal/rideau_e.shtml
The currents of history flow through the Rideau Canal, operated by
Parks Canada as a National Historic Canal. Dating back to the nineteenth
century, the Canal links lakes and rivers for a distance of over
200 kilometres from Ottawa to Kingston. Today, the Rideau Canal is
one of the Capital's most popular recreational areas. In the summer,
canoes and motorboats ply the waters, while walkers, joggers, cyclists
and in-line skaters enjoy the recreational pathways alongside. In
the winter, 8 kilometres are cleared to become the longest outdoor
ice-skating rink in the world.
Parliament Hill |
http://www.capcan.ca/attractions/parliament/index_e.html
Parliament is the heart of Canada's democratic system. Canadians'
representatives meet on Parliament Hill to make laws that shape the
country's future and affect the lives of every citizen. Parliament
Hill is a place for national decision-making. It is also a place
for people. Visitors are welcome to tour the buildings, view Parliament
in action, and enjoy public programs and colourful spectacles, such
as the ceremonial Changing the Guard ceremony and the Sound and Light
Show. You may freely stroll around Parliament Hill and enjoy the
views and statues. A self-guiding brochure is available. On the grounds,
you may meet a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, costumed
characters from Canada's past or knowledgeable guides who can tell
you about the site.
